Consultants from "Business Logics 2.0" (I.T. Group), in conjunction with experts from NIIAS OJSC Process Office, have developed a method of modeling and described a number of RZD OJSC's production processes, in order to implement them in the Unified Intellectual System of railway transport management.
In December 2012, a project related to the creation of a Unified Intellectual System of railway transport management (UISRTM) began at NIIAS OJSC, the main organization in charge of automating RZD OJSC's production activity. The start of the project was preceded by a phase of preparatory works related to developing a methodological base and describing the production processes at RZD OJSC to the extent required for system implementation. A Process Office incorporating employees of the institute's key production departments was set up at NIIAS OJSC in order to carry out these functions. The main task of the Process Office is to develop a complex process model for RZD OJSC's production activity, for automation in the UISRTM.
Business processes are described with the help of ARIS tools, in particular, the products of ARIS Business Server, ARIS Business Architect, ARIS Business Designer and ARIS UML Designer. Connections between the business process models and the data models, the ontological model and the user interface models made it possible to organize efficient interaction between the production engineers, analysts and software developers when setting tasks, formalizing them and implementing them in the system.
"It was a logical and appropriate step for the ARIS method of describing business processes, which is now standard practice at RZD OJSC, also to be used within the holding's affiliates," said Andrey Koptelov, BPM Director of "Business Logics 2.0", commenting on the results of the project. In conjunction with the customer's experts, we improved the Code of practice for the modeling of processes and business architecture of RZD OJSC and the "classical" ARIS methodology, by adapting them to the tasks involved in designing a Unified Intellectual System of railway transport management."
"Describing the organization's processes is an important stage during the preparations for developing and implementing IT solutions," says Anton Chekhov, Head of the Analysis and Design Department of PRIS NTK, Deputy Head of the Process Office at NIIAS OJSC. "The method developed in conjunction with consultants from "Business Logics 2.0" will make it possible to implement a project to create a UISRTM system with maximum efficiency."
